Pilgrim Badge. 15th century AD. Martyrdom of St. Alban. The lead original depicts the severed head of Britain's first martyr hanging from a tree. Legend said that the executioner's eys fell out, seen here as the Roman soldier (in mediaeval armour catching them in his hand. Found in Angel Passage, London. Private collection. Height 51mm
