Description

16th century AD. The gold original, set with rubies was recovered from the wreck of the Girona. It was regarded as a charm against fire. It may have also reoresented a flying lizard, Draco Volans. The scales on the body and the markings on the face are examples of fine craftmanship.
Incredibly, when found, three of the rubies were still in situ after 400 years in the sea. UlsterMuseum, Belfast. Length 40mm. This example is 9 carat yellow gold and each of the nine rubies have been specially cut to fit the settings. It can be ordered as a brooch or a pendant, supplied on a 20" gold chain.
