22 carat gold Nero Caesar Augustus ring

Description

I modelled this magnificent 22 carat yellow gold ring around an original coin backed with a Roman Brothel token. The detail on the head of  Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus is remarkable. The shoulders of the ring are inspired by Roman Doric and Composite columns. The story behind the Brothel Token is that because in the days of the Roman Empire, soldiers were often in parts of the world whose population spoke a different language. Armies need to relax occasionally; brothels had pictures painted on the walls of the 'waiting room' of the various services offered. Bronze tokens were struck with matching illustrations, which the soldier would present to the girls, showing what they would like. No confusion and everyone had a happy ending......  The top of the ring measures 25 mm in diameter and it weighs just over 33 grams.
